Kenya's Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i, has issued a statement dismissing as fake the news circulating on social media that Monday, October 29, 2019, had been declared a non-working public holiday in Kenya, on account of the Hindu holiday of Diwali ("Kindly ignore a gazette notice circulating on social media claiming Monday 28th October 2019 to be a public holiday").

Apparently, many in Kenya were hoping that Diwali would become an annual non-working public holiday in Kenya, as the Idd-ul-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice (2019-08-06, 2018-08-17, 2017-08-30, 2016-09-09, 2010-09-08, 2009-11-25, 2009-09-11, 2008-12-04, 2007-11-06), has slowly become a fixture of the list of public holidays in Kenya.
