The Cabinet of the Government of Mauritius has announced the official annual list of the non-working public holidays in Mauritius for the upcoming calendar year 2020.
Four years ago (2015-06-14), after many years (2014-07-26, 2013-06-14, 2012-06-02 and 2011-09-14), when no new annual non-working public holidays were declared in Mauritius, the list of annual non-working public holidays in Mauritius for 2016 included a non-working public holiday for the Tamizh Puttaandu (Varusha Pirappu or Tamil New Year), apparently in compensation for no non-working public holiday being declared in 2016 in Mauritius for Thaipoosam Cavadee.
When the list of 2017 list of non-working public holidays in Mauritius was announced by the Cabinet of the Government of Mauritius, the following year (2016-05-21), the apparent quid pro quo seemed confirmed with the Tamizh Puttaandu public holiday of Mauritius to alternate every year with Thaipoosam Cavadee, as was already the case for the Assumption and All Saints annual non-working public holidays of Mauritius.
However, as per today's annual list of the non-working public holidays in Mauritius for the upcoming calendar year 2020, it would appear that this is not to be, as was the case for the 2018 and 2019 public holidays in Mauritius, as released in previous years (2018-05-26 and 2017-05-13).
