The Peruvian government has gazetted the Decreto Supremo Nº 197-2019-PCM which expands the list of the official non-working public holidays in Peru for the upcoming calendar year 2020 ("Artículo 1.- Días no laborables en el sector público, 1.1 Declárase días no laborables, para los trabajadores del sector público, a nivel nacional, los siguientes: Lunes 27 de julio de 2020, Viernes 9 de octubre de 2020, y Jueves 31 de diciembre de 2020.").
As was done regularly in the past (2019-01-04, 2017-12-26, 2017-01-07, 2016-12-22, 2013-01-01, 2011-12-29, 2011-03-06, 2010-02-17, 2008-12-15, 2008-02-08 and 2006-09-15), apart from a 3 years hiatus (2015-12-31, 2014-12-09 and 2014-03-31), the Government of Peru has again issued a Decreto Supremo declaring 3 additional non-working public holidays in Peru for 2020 to stimulate internal tourism ("el Ministerio de Comercio Exterior y Turismo–MINCETUR, en materia de turismo, tiene como objetivo promover el desarrollo de la actividad turística como un medio para contribuir al crecimiento económico y al desarrollo social del país, propiciando las condiciones más favorables para el desarrollo de la iniciativa privada, y la generación de empleo").
Even during the years when the declarations of one-off non-working public holidays in Peru, to stimulate internal tourism, was abandoned, some isolated one-off public holidays in Peru did get declared (2016-08-13, 2015-09-12, 2015-07-23 and 2014-12-14).
Last year's Decreto Supremo Nº 002-2019-PCM which amended the list of the official non-working public holidays in Peru for the calendar year 2019, was subsequently later amended so that the one-off public holiday on October 31, 2019, initially gazetted for civil servants, would instead be observed by both public and private sector workers (2019-10-21).
