A draft bill by Romanian deputies aims to amend article 139 of the Labor Code by declaring day in lieu public holidays whenever a fixed-date annual non-working public holiday of Romania falls on a weekend, or at the very least, a Sunday.

Recent changes to the list of annual non-working public holidays in Romania, via amendments to article 139 of the Labor Code, include Good Friday (2018-03-12, 2018-02-25), 2018-02-28, 2017-12-11), International Children's Day on June 1st (2016-11-17, 2016-10-18, 2016-09-15, 2016-06-13 and 2016-04-08), and the commemoration of the reunification of Wallachia and Moldavia on January 24 (2016-10-07 and 2016-09-06).

We do not expect the aforementioned bill, if it passes, to amend the previously-announced list of public holidays in 2019 in Romania (2019-01-04).
