Bahrain's Shura Council has rejected the legislation passed last month and which would shift public holidays that fall two days before or after a weekend.
Last month (2020-11-10), Bahrain's MPs had approved a legislative proposal to move Bahrain public holidays to adjoin the weekend, when those public holidays fall one day away from the nearest weekend, in an attempt to reduce absenteeism at work.
The annual public holidays of Bahrain that would be covered by the new weekend bridge rule would be: Gregorian New Year, National Day, Labour Day, the Prophet’s birthday, and Islamic New Year, and would exclude the 3-day Eid Al Fitr public holidays, the 3-day Eid Al Adha public holidays, as well as the 2-day Ashoora public holidays.
As mentioned in our initial report, the aforementioned legislation, needed to be approved by the cabinet.
