Bangladesh's Election Commission has requested that the Ministry of Public Administration of Bangladesh declare a one-off non-working public holiday, in Dhaka city, on Saturday, February 1, 2020, on the upcoming two city corporation elections.
The aforementioned elections were recently moved from Friday, January 30, 2020, to Saturday, February 1, 2020, due to the occurrence of Saraswati Puja on January 30, 2020.
As per the electoral commission, though Saturday is listed as a weekly public holiday, "it was necessary to declare a public holiday in the offices, organizations, institutions, including health services and educational institutions, which are considered Saturday as a working day".
The declaration of Saturday, February 1, 2020, as an additional one-off non-working public holiday in Bangladesh thus amends the announced list of non-working public holidays in Bangladesh in 2020, which was released last fall (2019-11-25 and 2019-10-29) by the Ministry of Public Administration, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.
