Brazil Covid19 Public Holidays Legislation

Source: Agência Senado Federal (Brasilia)

Brazilian Congressman, Gilson Marques, has introduced bill (986/20) which would authorize the moving or cancellation of Brazilian public holidays during the Covid-19 pandemic, with the exception of Christmas and the New Year public holidays.

Looking at the list of upcoming 2020 public holidays in Brazil, it is not clear how much impact, if any, this legislation would have.

As per the (PORTARIA 679 ME, DE 30-12-2019 (DO-U, Edição Extra, de 31-12-2019)), gazetted by the Federal Government of Brazil, through its Ministério do Planejamento, Desenvolvimento e Gestão, earlier this year (2020-01-03 and 2019-09-21), only Tiradentes Day, on April 21, does not adjoin a weekend.
