Indonesian President Joko Widodo has signed the Presidential Decree number 22 of 2020, dated November 27, 2020, which officially declares Wednesday, December 9, 2020, as a national public holiday throughout Indonesia ("Establishing Wednesday 9 December 2O2O as a national holiday in the context of the election for the Governor and Deputy Governor, the Regent and Deputy Regent, as well as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor simultaneously").
The aforementioned announcement of Wednesday, December 9, 2020, as a national public holiday throughout Indonesia, confirms the statement, made last week (2020-11-18) by the Commissioner of the General Election Commission of Indonesia (KPU), Hasyim Ashari, that Wednesday, December 9, 2020, would be declared a one-off national public holiday in Indonesia on account of the simultaneous regional elections being held on that date ("Pada hari pemungutan suara sebagaimana diamanahkan di UU dilaksanakan pada hari libur atau diliburkan, sebagaimana yang sudah-sudah dalam pilkada 2015, 2017, 2018").
As mentioned at the time of our post, last week, the declaration of Wednesday, December 9, 2020, as a one-off national public holiday in Indonesia required the passage of a Presidential Decree (Keppres), before becoming official.
