The Moldovan Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, has announced that Monday, June 1st, 2020, International Children's Day, would not be observed as a public holiday in Moldova, this year.
Four years ago year (2016-05-30 and 2016-05-27), Moldova's Parliament passed a bill to make June 1st, International Children's Day, a new annual non-working public holiday in Moldova. But, that bill was passed so late that the declaration of Wednesday, June 1st, 2016, was made as a one-off non-working public holiday in Moldova, to be compensated by Saturday, June 25, 2016, being declared working day.
The following year (2017-05-24), once again, the bill to make June 1st a new annual non-working public holiday in Moldova, had still not been transcribed into the Moldovan Labour Code by the end of May, and as a consequence, Thursday, June 1st, 2017, was again declared a one-off non-working public holiday in Moldova, compensated by Saturday, June 24, 2017, being declared a regular working day.
The last-minute declaration of June 1st as a one-off public holiday, compensated by the declaration of a nearby Saturday as a working day, was repeated in 2018, when Saturday, June 23, 2018, was declared a regular working day in Moldova to compensate the declaration of Friday, June 1st, 2018, as a non-working public holiday in Moldova (2018-05-16).
Last year, the issue did not come up, as June 1st fell on a Saturday.
But, this year, with the recent extended period of Covid19 public holidays (2020-04-13 and 2020-04-06, 2020-04-14, 2020-04-25), the government of Moldova that the public sector of Moldova would work 12 Saturdays, spread-out over the next 6 months ("23 mai, 13 iunie, 20 iunie, 4 iulie, 18 iulie, 1 august, 22 august, 5 septembrie, 19 septembrie, 3 octombrie, 17 octombrie și 31 octombrie anul curent") and today announced that no one-off public holiday would be declared on June 1st, 2020.
