The President of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, has signed the Decreto número 4040 which reverses the remaining terms of the Decreto número 2757 and keeps the upcoming Paz del Chaco and Victoria de Boquerón public holiday of Paraguay on its set date of September 29, 2020, rather than moving it to a adjoin a nearby weekend.

The Decreto número 2757 (2019-10-28), signed a year ago by the same President, Mario Abdo Benítez, contained the list of 2020 public holidays in Paraguay, including 2 of the annual non-working public holidays of Paraguay, which in 2020 were to be moved to adjoin a nearby weekend, in line with the changes to Paraguay public holidays of 8 years ago (2012-08-03), when Paraguay's then President, Federico Franco, issued the Decreto presidencial N° 9393 finally implementing the Ley 1723 del 29 de junio de 2001 (Que Autoriza Al Poder Ejecutivo A Trasladar Los Feriados Nacionales Al Dia Lunes) which gives the president of Paraguay the authority to move any, or all, mid-week public holidays to a nearby Monday (except New Year, Independence Day, día de La Virgen de Caacupé, and Maundy Thursday and Good Friday).

Despite its passage, almost 20 years ago (2001-06-29), and regular calls for the executive to avail itself of its prerogative (2010-09-23 and 2008-07-26), the provisions of law 1723/01 had rarely been used before 2012 (2012-07-24), when the practice became an annual one (2018-12-22, 2017-11-21, 2016-11-22, 2015-12-10, 2014-12-18, 2014-12-07, 2014-01-10 and 2013-01-03).
