The public sector's human resources department of the government of Puerto Rico (OATRH - Oficina de Administración y Transformación de los Recursos Humanos) has released its annual "Memorando Especial", which lists Puerto Rico's public sector holidays for the upcoming calendar year 2021.

The aforementioned document listing Puerto Rico's public sector holidays for the upcoming calendar year 2021, follows the "Proyecto del Senado 1113", signed by he Governor of Puerto Rico, Alejandro García Padilla, 5 years ago and slightly amended a year later (2015-10-21, 2014-07-29, 2014-07-23, 2014-07-19, 2014-07-01, 2014-05-22, 2014-05-12 and 2014-03-19).

That amendment immediately reduced the number of annual non-working public sector holidays in Puerto Rico, by lumping 4 of the annual non-working public sector holidays of Puerto Rico into one, the "Día de los Próceres Puertorriqueños" ("Día de Jorge Washington, Día de los Presidentes y el Día del Prócer y la Mujer Ilustre de Puerto Rico en honor a la vida y obra de: Eugenio María de Hostos, José de Diego, Luis Muñoz Rivera, José Celso Barbosa, Ramón Emeterio Betances, Román Baldorioty de Castro, Luis Muñoz Marín, Ernesto Ramos Antonini y Luis A. Ferré.").

As always (2019-04-30, 2018-07-19, 2017-03-24, 2016-06-11, 2015-05-06, 2014-10-26, 2014-03-29, 2013-09-14, 2012-06-19, 2011-07-26, 2010-04-05, and 2009-08-10), the private sector benefits from far fewer public holidays than the public sector. Banks usually follow the public sector holidays, except in cases when these fall on a Sunday.

Finally, the announcement of Puerto Rico's public sector holidays for the upcoming calendar year 2021, as usual, mentions that the calendar of Puerto Rico public holidays for 2021 is subject to later modifications by Puerto Rico's Governor ("Este calendario puede estar sujeto a enmienda. La gobernadora, Wanda Vázquez Garced, o la persona que designe podrá establecer mediante proclama que cierto día feriado se observará el lunes o viernes que sea más cercano a la celebración de dicho día.").
