The Telangana government has issued the government order G.O.Rt.No. 393 to the effect that Tuesday, December 1st, 2020, would be a public holiday due to the the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Election scheduled for that date ("A public holiday has been declared to all the employees/workers serving in the factories, shops, and establishments and industrial undertaking located in the Greater Hyderabad. The holiday has been declared with an aim to encourage voters to exercise their electoral right").
The announcement of Tuesday, December 1st, 2020, the date of the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Election, as a public holiday, thus further amends the "Holidays- General Holidays and Optional Holidays for the year 2020 – Notified" (G.O.Rt.No. 3022 dated 21.11.2019), which officially listed the annual non-working public holidays to be observed in the Indian State of Telangana for the calendar year 2020 (2019-11-22).
The government order G.O.Rt.No. 393 states that "In exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (2) of section 3 of the Telangana Factories and Establishments (National, Festival and Other Holidays) Act, 1974 (Act No.32/1974) and sub-section (2) of section 31 of the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988 (Act No.20/1988), Government of Telangana hereby declare paid holiday to all the employees / workers working in the Factories, Shops and Establishments and Industrial Undertakings / Establishments located in the GHMC areas notified by the Telangana Sate Election Commission vide Notification No.1294/TSEC-ULBs-GHMC/2020-1 and 2, dated: 17.11.2020 so as to enable the electorate to exercise their vote on the day of polling for the ordinary elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, as the case may be, if there is no holiday.".
