The Election Commission of India has issued orders that the collector has the power to declare a holiday in the Indian state of Telangana, on Friday, October 9, 2020, the date of the upcoming MLC election day.
The announcement of Friday, October 9, 2020, the date of the upcoming MLC election day, as a public holiday in Telangana, thus further amends the "Holidays- General Holidays and Optional Holidays for the year 2020 – Notified" (G.O.Rt.No. 3022 dated 21.11.2019), which officially listed the annual non-working public holidays to be observed in the Indian State of Telangana for the calendar year 2020 (2019-11-22).
The list of 2020 public holidays in the Indian state of Telangana had already been amended in March when the date of the 2020 Dussehra public holiday in Telangana, was moved from October 25 to October 26, 2020 (2020-03-09).
That same month, the Labour, Employment, Training and Factories Department of the Government of India's State of Telangana declared the upcoming lockdown period as public holidays (2020-03-21).
Most recently, the promotion of the Dussera restricted holiday to the status of a general public holiday in the Indian State of Telangana in 2020, was repealed (2020-05-16).
