Turkmenistan's President, Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov, has signed a decree declaring Monday, September 28, 2020, as a non-working public holiday in Turkmenistan on account of the upcoming Independence Day of Turkmenistan public holiday falling on a Sunday in 2020.

As per the aforementioned decree, "in order to create favorable conditions for the celebration of Independence Day and good recreation of the population, as well as in accordance with part 2 of Article 81 of the Labor Code of Turkmenistan, postpone the day off from September 27th, 2020 to Monday – September 28th" and goes on to state that "All institutions, enterprises and organizations, regardless of their form of ownership, are instructed to ensure the implementation of this decree".

Paragraph 3 of Article 81 of the Labour Code of Turkmenistan gives the President the discretionary powers to do so on a case-by-case basis, something that President Berdimuhammadov has done more and more frequently over past years (2017-08-30, 2013-10-25, 2012-12-22, 2012-02-11, 2011-12-30, 2010-12-10, 2010-03-19 and 2009-11-10), though with a recent hiatus of over a year (2018-08-21).
