The State Government of India's state of West Bengal has issued the Government Order No. 3361- F(P2) which amends the list of 2021 public holidays in West Bengal published in the Department Notification No. 3100 -F(P2).
The Government Order No. 3361- F(P2) adds two holidays to the list of 2021 public holidays in West Bengal "In exercise of the power conferred by the explanation to Section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881 (XXVI of 1881), read with Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Notification No. 20/25/56-pub(I) dated the 8th June, 1957 the Governor is pleased to declare the days as specified at List I below to be Public Holidays during the year 2021.", as released last month (2020-11-06).
A one-off public holiday is added on November 15, 2021, for the Birthday of Birsa Munda ("In the list of Holidays 2021 notified under this Department No.3100-F(P2) dated 05.11.2020, in List-II therein (Holidays under the order of State Government in 2021) the following occasion shall be added: Birthday of Birsa Munda").
A new annual public holiday is also added for the Birthday of Thakur Panchanan Barma ("It has been decided that there will be a holiday henceforth under the order of State Government on occasion of the Birthday of Thakur Panchanan Barma which falls on 1st day of Phalgun in every Bengali Year corresponding to 13th/ 14th February"), but with no effect in 2021 as it falls on a Sunday ("Thus, in the year 2021, the festivals/occasions falling on Sundays which are Public Holidays under N.I Act will be as follows: Birthday of Thakur Panchanan Barma, 14th February, Sunday").
List-I and List-Ill of the Notification No. 3100 -F(P2) remain unchanged.
The Government Order No. 3361- F(P2) is signed by D. K. Mahapatra, the special secretary to the Government of West Bengal.
