The Armenian head of the Prime Minister's Office, Arayik Harutyunyan, has announced that, based on Article 19 of the Law on Holidays and Memorable Dates, the Armenian Cabinet had decided to declare as a one-off public holiday in Armenia on Monday, September 20, 2021, to link the upcoming Tuesday, September 21, 2021, Independence Day public holiday with the preceding weekend.
Today's decision had been hinted at, yesterday (2021-09-07).
In compensation for the declaration of a one-off public holiday in Armenia on Monday, September 20, 2021, Independence Day public holiday of Armenia, with the preceding weekend, Saturday, September 25, 2021, will be a regular working day in Armenia.
The September 20 working day being transferred to the following Saturday, is the opposite of what happened last time, when the compensatory working Saturday was declared on the Saturday before the bridge public holiday (2020-02-21).
At that time, the head of the government apparatus, Eduard Aghajanyan, had pointed out that "Usually, when making such decisions, the government transfers the working day to next Saturday, but I want to draw the attention of citizens to the fact that now the working day is postponed to the previous week".
