At yesterday's special sitting of the Belize House of Representatives, the Designate New Holidays and Special Days Motion, 2021, introduced late last year by the newly-elected People's United Party, was adopted.

Proposed amendments to the Belize 2021 public holidays were gazetted, late last year, by the Minister of Home Affairs of the newly-formed government of Belize, Kareem Musa, with effect on December 31 (2020-12-31).

An initial list of 2021 public holidays had been released, last summer (2020-06-15), in line with the First and Second Schedule to the Holidays Act, Chapter 289 of the Laws of Belize, Revised Edition 2000-2003.

As per the proposed amendments, the list of 2021 public holidays adds 2 public holidays; one on January 15 (George Price Day) and one on August 2 (Freedom Day), while cancelling the Pan-American Day public holiday held in October until 2020 (2019-07-23).
