The Administrator of Australia's Indian Ocean Territories, Natasha Griggs, has signed the "Notice - Proclamation - Special Public and Bank Holidays 2022 Territory of Christmas Island No 01/2021, Tuesday, 27 July 2021, Christmas Island Act 1958" which officially gazettes the annual bank holidays and public holidays on Christmas Island for the upcoming calendar year 2022.

As per the aforementioned proclamation, "I, Natasha Griggs, Administrator of the Territory of Christmas Island under the powers delegated to me under the Public and Bank Holidays Act 1972 (WA)(CI), as enabled by section 8A of the Christmas Island Act 1958, determine that the following days are to be special Public and Bank Holidays in the Territory Christmas Island as of Tuesday, 27 July 2021.".

In 2022, once again (2020-08-31), but contrary to what was the case in some previous years (2018-07-12, 2014-08-21, 2013-09-27, 2008-08-13, 2007-08-14, and 2000-08-31), but not all (2019-07-11, 2017-06-19, 2016-06-10 and 2015-08-03), there will be no conflict between two of the Christmas Island public holidays, avoiding the required tinkering with the public holidays dates on Christmas Island.

The proclamation of the 2022 public holidays on Christmas Island contains the usual postscript, "Dates subject to change: The Islamic calendar is based on lunar observation. Although it is possible to estimate with a reasonable degree of accuracy the lunar calendar in advance, the dates will be subject to the sighting of the new moon. The above dates may vary by one or two days.", as does its sister proclamation (2021-07-27).
