Cuba's Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, has announced that the National Assembly had approved the declaration of Monday, January 3, 2022, as a substitute public holiday in Cuba "taking into account the effort made in the current year by the people, protagonists of the victories against aggressions and the pandemic, and that the first and second January holidays are a weekend".

The list of annual non-working public holidays in Cuba for the calendar year 2021, based on "artículo 96 de la Ley 116 del Código de Trabajo", as released by the government of Cuba, earlier this year (2021-01-04), does specify day in lieu substitute public holidays when a public holiday falls on a Sunday ("when the days of national commemoration coincide with a Sunday, it is transferred to the next day").
