The general administration department of the Government of India's Delhi NCT (National Capital Territory) has declared a one-off non-working public holiday in the Delhi NCT on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, on the occasion of the upcoming Chhath Puja festival.
The aforementioned declaration of a public holiday in the Delhi NCT on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, reads "Chhath Puja is an important festival for the people of NCT of Delhi. Accordingly, the Government of Delhi has decided to declare November 10, 2021, as a public holiday on account of Chhath Puja" and thus further amends (2021-08-18) the DOPT Order No. F. 53/401/GAD/CN/2020/3376-3424 containing the list of annual public holidays and restricted holidays to be observed as holidays in all Government offices of the National Capital Territory of Delhi during the year 2021 (Saka Era 1942-43), as released last autumn (2020-11-11).
In 2013, the BJP Party had promised to declare Chhath Puja as a new annual non-working public holiday in the Delhi NCT, if it won the then coming Assembly elections (2013-08-29). Since then, though Chhath Puja is almost never included in the initially-released list of Delhi public holidays for the coming year, it almost always is declared a public holiday at the last minute (2020-11-17, 2019-11-01, 2018-11-12, 2017-10-24, 2014-10-28).
