Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, has announced that Thursday, August 12, 2021, would be a paid public holiday on account of the upcoming Islamic New Year Hijri 1443, for "ministries, governmental bodies, general authorities, local administration units, public enterprises and public business sector companies".
The Islamic New Year 1443 will likely occur on Monday, August 9, 2021, in Egypt, but last year (2020-06-28), the Government of Egypt announced that it would start moving fixed-date mid-week public holidays to the following Thursday "to give citizens a chance to have a long weekend".
However, moving of the Islamic New Year 1442 public holiday to the subsequent Thursday came as a bit of a surprise, as the initial announcement did specify that this would apply to "national holidays falling on weekdays" and the recent End of Ramadan and Feast of Sacrifice public holidays were not specifically moved (2021-07-13 and 2021-05-11).
We expect an announcement, soon, by the Egyptian Minister of Manpower, Mohamed Saafan, declaring a public holiday on account of the upcoming Islamic New Year Hijri 1443.
