The Fiji Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations has announced that the Governing Cabinet of Fiji had approved the list of 2022 public holidays in Fiji ("the approved 10 public holidays for 2022 was decided after consulting stakeholders.").

As highlighted in the announcement of the 2022 public holidays ("The announcement will allow Fijians and all relevant stakeholders to plan their activities for 2022"), the aforementioned list of non-working public holidays in Fiji for the upcoming calendar year 2022 comes in much earlier than in any recent year (2020-10-26, 2019-09-11, 2018-09-13, 2017-08-14, 2016-09-20, 2015-09-22), though the announcement of the following year's public holidays in the early summer had been the norm previously (2014-05-20, 2013-06-20, 2011-06-08, 2010-05-24, 2009-06-03).

The list of 2022 Fiji public holidays also confirms the most recently added annual Fiji public holiday, namely Constitution Day (2015-08-27), though National Sports and Wellness Day has been excluded from the aforementioned list of 2022 public holidays in Fiji, once again (2020-10-26, 2019-09-11).

As often happens, the Government of Fiji moved the 2022 public holidays for Prophet Mohammed's Birthday and Diwali. The change in the date of the 2022 public holiday for Prophet Mohammed's Birthday is due to a conflict with Fiji Day, but the change of date for the 2022 Diwali public holiday, from a Monday to a Tuesday, in inexplicable.

Recall that, after years of discussions (2002-01-06), the Fiji Government finally removed the Queen's Birthday annual public holiday from the list of official public holidays in Fiji (2012-08-01).

The cancellation of the Queen's Birthday public holiday in Fiji was preceded by the 2010 cancellation of the National Youth Day and Ratu Sukuna Day public holidays (2010-03-21 and 2010-05-24) which themselves were preceded by the 2003 cancellation of the Fiji public holiday for Prince Charles' Birthday (2003-06-11).
