The Commissioner/Secretary to the General Administration Department of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, has released the Government Order F.No.LA/GAD(Holiday) UTL/2019(01), entitled "Postponement of Holiday on Account of Ashoora" and which moves the previously-declared Ashoora public holiday in the Union Territory of Ladakh from Thursday, August 19, to Friday, August 20, 2021.
The main body of the Government Order F.No.LA/GAD(Holiday) UTL/2019(01) reads as follows: "In partial modification of Order No.135-LA(GAD) of 2020 dated 30.12.2020, it is hereby ordered that the holiday on account of ‘Ashoora* shall now be observed on 20th of August 2021 (Friday) instead of 19th August 2021 (Thursday) in the Union territory of Ladakh.".
The aforementioned Government Order No.135-LA(GAD) of 2020, signed by Sonam Chhosdon, Under Secretary in the General Administration Department, listing the days which were to be non-working public holidays in Ladakh in 2021, was released at the very end of last year (2020-12-31).
Recall that, on October 31, 2019, the State of Jammu and Kashmir was split into 2, as the new Union Territory of Ladakh was carved out of Jammu and Kashmir, in a manner similar to the creation of Telangana as the 29th state of India on June 2, 2014, having itself been carved-out the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh (2015-05-31).
The remaining part of Jammu and Kashmir was then changed in status from a state to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
