Following the announcement by New Zealand's Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, that Matariki would become a public holiday, beginning in 2022, the New Zealand Government has released an updated list of non-working public holidays for the calendar year 2022 (Public holidays and anniversary dates 2021-2022).

The aforementioned updated list of 2022 public holidays in New Zealand, contains the Friday, June 24, 2022, date for the first observance of Matariki (Maori New Year) as an annual public holiday in New Zealand, as announced by Prime Minister Ardern, earlier this week (2021-02-04).

The initial list of New Zealand 2022 public holidays had been released more than 2 years ago (2018-09-15).
