The New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has released the list of non-working public holidays in New Zealand for the calendar years 2023-2024.

The previous list of New Zealand 2022 public holidays had been released almost 3 years ago (2018-09-15), but it was amended earlier this year, following the announcement by New Zealand's Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, that Matariki would become a public holiday, beginning in 2022 (2021-02-04).

The aforementioned list of 2023-2024 public holidays in New Zealand, does not mention any future date for Matariki, in line with the initial announcement that a new Matariki Advisory Group, comprising experts in mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge), would be tasked with the determination of the dates of the Matariki public holiday for the next 30 years "to give businesses certainty about when it would happen".

The list of 2023-2024 public holidays does include a revised date for the 2021 and 2022 Canterbury Anniversary Day public holidays, which are incorrect in our opinion, and that we have contacted the New Zealand government about this discrepancy with our internally generated dates, as we have done on previous occasions (2020-11-18).
