Niger's Ministre en charge de l’emploi has declared Tuesday, August 10, 2021, as a nationwide public holiday in Niger, on account of the upcoming Islamic New Year 1443 ("la journée du 10 Août est chômée et payée sur toute l’étendue du territoire national conformément à la loi instituant les fêtes légales au Niger").

The aforementioned declaration of Tuesday, August 10, 2021, as the public holiday in Niger, for the Islamic New Year 1443, came on the heels of the announcement by the Conseil Islamique du Niger that the New Moon crescent had not been sighted last night ("le croissant lunaire n’a pas été aperçu au soir du 8 Août et que ce lundi 09 Août sera le 30 du mois courant de Dhou al-Hijja 1442" and "En conséquent, le mardi 10 Août 2021 correspondra au 1er jour de la nouvelle année hégirienne 1443").

As on previous occasions (2020-08-20, 2018-06-13, 2018-06-09, 2017-06-21, 2017-04-14, 2016-09-08, 2015-09-23 and 2015-07-16), the declaration refers specifically to the "Loi n° 97-20 du 20 juin 1997 instituant les fêtes légales" (1997-06-23) is also in line with the subsequent "Loi n°98-05 du 29 avril 1998 instituant les fêtes légales" (1998-04-29), as amended by the "Loi n°2006-08 du 02 mai 2006" (2006-05-09), and with last winter's announcement by the Government of Niger (2021-01-19) specifying the non-working public holidays in Niger for the calendar year 2021, and applies to both the private and public sectors.
