The Government of Peru has published Law No. 31381, which declares December 9 as a new annual national public holiday commemorating the Battle of Ayacuchoas, as approved by the Congress of the Republic, in the official gazette El Peruano.

The aforementioned Law No. 31381 was signed by the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, and the head of the Ministerial Cabinet, Mirtha Vásquez.

It has been decades since Peru last added an annual national public holiday, though it has regularly issued annual decrees declaring additional non-working public holidays in Peru to stimulate internal tourism (2021-10-07, 2019-12-21, 2019-01-04, 2017-12-26, 2017-01-07, 2016-12-22, 2013-01-01, 2011-12-29, 2011-03-06, 2010-02-17, 2008-12-15, 2008-02-08 and 2006-09-15), after a 3 years hiatus (2015-12-31, 2014-12-09 and 2014-03-31).
