The Governor of Saint Helena, Philip Rushbrook, has published the extraordinary gazette EX GAZ 121 which declares Friday, June 3, 2022, as a public holiday in Saint Helena, to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The aforementioned extraordinary gazette entry reads as, "In accordance with section 5(2) of the Public Holidays Ordinance, 1945, I, the Governor, hereby direct that Friday, 3 June 2022 shall be observed as a Public Holiday to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubile".
Recall that, late last year (2020-11-12), the UK's culture secretary, Oliver Dowden, announced that an extra Platinum Jubilee public holiday would be declared on Friday, June 3, 2022, to mark Queen Elizabeth's 70th anniversary on the throne.
Saint Helena did not declare a public holiday in 2012 for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, but it did declare a one-off public holiday for the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton (2011-04-01).
The extraordinary gazette EX GAZ 121 also declares a public holiday on Friday, May 20, 2022 ("I, Philip Rushbrook, Governor of St Helena, acting in accordance with section 2(3) of the Public Holidays Ordinance, 1945, direct that Friday, 20 May 2022 shall be observed as a public holiday.") due to Saint Helena Day falling on a Saturday in 2022 ("Whereas 21 May 2022 falls on a Saturday and section 2(3) of that Ordinance provides that if a Public Holiday other than Christmas Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the Governor shall, by Proclamation, direct that either the preceding Friday or the following Monday be observed as a Public Holiday in lieu of that Saturday or Sunday").
