The chief minister of the Government of the Indian State of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang, has declared August 20, as a new annual state public holiday to commemorate the day when the Indian Parliament approved the inclusion of Nepali in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

The declaration of August 20, Bhasa Diwas, as a new annual state public holiday, due to the time of the year, does not amend the list of 2021 Sikkim public holidays, as released by the government of the state of Sikkim, a year ago (2020-10-07), though it does amend the recently-announced list of 2022 public holidays in Sikkim, as announced in the Government of Sikkim notification No.71/Home/2021 of 28/09/2021 (2021-09-28).
