In a move welcomed by the Bihari Mahasabha, the Government of India's state of Uttarakhand, on the instruction of its Chief Minister, has declared a one-off non-working public holiday on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, on the occasion of Chhath Puja.

The aforementioned declaration of Wednesday, November 10, 2021, as a public holiday in Uttarakhand, on the occasion of Chhath Puja, as issued by Secretary In-Charge Vinod Kumar Suman, thus amends the notification of the list of public holidays in Uttarakhand for the calendar year 2021, as contained in the vide Notification No. 794/xxxi(15)G-74/2016-20, released late last year (2020-12-23).

Though Chhath Puja is rarely included in the initial annual list of public holidays in Uttarakhand (2020-12-23, 2020-01-15 2018-12-31, 2017-12-16 and 2016-11-13), a later declaration of a one-off Uttarakhand public holiday for Chhath Puja is frequent (2019-11-01, 2018-11-12 and 2017-10-25).
