The spokesman for the labour ministry of the Afghan Taliban government, Mohammad Yunus Sidiqi, has announced that the Persian New Year Nowruz would no longer be observed as a public holiday in Afghanistan, beginning immediately.

With last summer's stroll back into power of the Talibans, the list of annual public holidays in Afghanistan remains uncertain.

For the moment the cancellation, or not, of each public holiday seems set to occur a few days beforehand.

The September 9 Massoud Day public holiday was removed from the list of annual Afghan public holidays, beginning with the calendar year 2021 (2021-09-07).

But, earlier this year, the Afghan Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs confirmed Tuesday, February 15, 2022, which corresponds to Dalwa 26 in the Afghan calendar, as a public holiday on account of the anniversary of the "Soviet defeat and withdrawal from Afghanistan" (2022-02-14).

Liberation Day had been added to the list of official public holidays in Aghanistan 15 years ago (2007-02-14).
