The Government of India's state of Assam has issued the Government Order No.GAG(B).152/2021/36 modifying the earlier declaration of Thursday and Friday, January 6-7, 2022, as optional public sector holidays, by specifying that the public sector holidays of January 6-7, 2022, would be considered as special casual leave effectively meaning that they would not be compensated.

Last month (2021-12-07), the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Government of Assam had issued the Government Order No.GAG(B).152/2021/30 declaring Thursday and Friday, January 6-7, 2022, as optional public sector holidays ("Regarding availing of Casual Leave on 6th and 7th January 2022").

The Government Order No.GAG(B).152/2021/30 read as follows, "In the interest of public services, the Governor of Assam is pleased to allow State Government employees to avail Casual Leave on 6th and 7th January, 2022 suffixing the two holidays, the 8th and 9th January, 2022, being 2nd Saturday and Sunday, so as to enable them to spend the aforesaid days with their living parents and parents in- laws.", adding for good measure that "Hon'ble Minister's may also take advantage of the break to be with their parents/ in-laws during the said period.".

The declaration of Thursday and Friday, January 6-7, 2022, as optional public sector holidays, thus further amends (2021-12-04) the list of 2022 Assam public holidays as recently released in the Government Notification No.GAG(A).81/2016/749 (2021-10-30).
