The Information Department of Brunei Darussalam's Prime Minister's Office has announced that the public holiday for the End of Ramadan in Brunei Darussalam would be observed on Monday, May 2nd, 2022, "as the hilal or new moon was sighted at one or more vantage points this evening".
The aforementioned announcement that the End of Ramadan (Hari Raya) Brunei Darussalam public holiday would be observed on Monday, May 2nd, 2022, in in line with the previously-announced list of 2022 public holidays (2021-10-09).
Note, however, that neither today's announcement, or the initially-released list of 2022 Brunei public holidays, is in line with last year's agreement between the Ministers of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (2022-02-23), to "adopt revised criteria of the astronomical calculation for the determination of the Islamic calendar from year 2022 onwards".
Though, to be fair to Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia has also ignored the new hilal criteria (2022-05-01), despite its claims to the contrary (2022-02-23), and Malaysia, whose initial date for its 2022 End of Ramadan public holiday (2021-07-19 and 2021-06-15) was in line with the new MABIMS criteria, has just changed that date to Monday, May 2nd, 2022 (2022-05-01).
