The ministre du travail, emploi et prévoyance sociale of the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Claudine Ndusi M’Kembe, has released a communiqué announcing that Saturday, Sunday and Monday, January 15-16-17, 2022, would be non-working public holidays in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The aforementioned communiqué recalls that January 16 and 17 are annual public holidays in the Democratic Republic of the Congo ("Les journées du 15 et 17 janvier 2022 dédiées aux héros nationaux de la République Démocratique du Congo, Mzee Laurent Désiré Kabila et Patrice Emery Lumumba, sont déclarées chromées et payées."), as confirmed in the recent announcement of the 2022 DR Congo public holidays (2022-01-04).
The communiqué released by minister Ndusi M’Kembe goes on to state that due to January 16 falling on a Sunday this year, a day in lieu public holiday had been declared in the DR Congo on Saturday, January 15, 2022 ("La journée du 16 janvier tombant un dimanche, celle du samedi 15 janvier 2022 est donc retenue comme journée chômée payée sur toute l’étendue du territoire national."), as well as what was done on past occasions when a DRC public holiday fell on a Sunday (2021-07-30, 2021-01-11, 2020-05-14, 2019-06-26, 2016-04-28, 2016-01-14, 2015-05-12 and 2010-01-15).
