Paraguay's President, Mario Abdo Benítez, has released the Decree No. 6917 which once again decrees a non-working public sector holiday for Ash Wednesday, on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, to let Paraguayan civil servants begin their Holy Week non-working public holidays a day earlier than the general population.

The title of the aforementioned Decreto Nº6917 reads, "Por el cual se declara asueto el día miércoles 13 de abril de 2022, para los funcionarios de la administración pública y entes descentralizadas." and then goes on to justify the declaration as follows, "Paraguayan people commemorate, with great devotion, the oldest of the manifestations of Christianity, Holy Week, where the passion, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ are remembered. In addition, on those days, movements of citizens throughout the national territory are carried out".

One-off public sector holidays have been common in Paraguay in the past, most commonly for Holy Wednesday (2020-04-03, 2019-04-12, 2019-02-26, 2018-03-22, 2016-03-18, 2015-03-20, 2014-04-11, 2013-03-16, 2012-04-03, 2011-04-18, 2010-03-30 and 2009-04-06), and for the year-end (2018-12-11, 2016-12-13, 2014-12-22, 2012-12-07, 2011-12-19, 2010-12-23 and 2009-12-23), though usually only for the afternoon.
