The Government of the Indian State of Punjab has issued a follow-up notification on today's one-off public holiday commemorating the Martyrdom Day of Bhagat Singh, making the said public holiday an annual occurrence.

As per today's notification, "there shall be a gazetted holiday in all the offices of Punjab Government, Board, Corporations and Government educational institutes on the Martyrdom Day of Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev every year".

Recall that, yesterday, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, had declared a state public holiday for Wednesday, March 23, 2022, to commemorate the death anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh and "allow the people of Punjab to visit Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of Bhagat Singh to pay homage" (2022-03-22).

Punjab had later been joined by the Union Territory of Chandigarh in declaring today a statewide public holiday (2022-03-22).

That declaration of Wednesday, March 23, 2022, as a public holiday in Punjab, further amended (2022-02-10) the previously-released annual list of 2022 public holidays in Punjab as contained in the Government Order 06/01/2021/2PP3/1372 as was issued late last year (2021-12-10).

Recall that the Martyrdom Day of Bhagat Singh had been an annual public holiday in the Indian State of Punjab before 2018 (2016-12-18).
