A bill has been introduced into the Romanian Senate which would declare the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, aka. the Epiphany, on January 6 as a new annual public holiday in Romania.
The aforementioned Senate bill would provide for the amendment and completion of paragraph (1) in article 139 of Law no. 53/2003, Romania's Labor Code, as follows: "The public holidays in which one does not work are:, after the phrase January 1 and 2 a new phrase is introduced, with the following content: - January 6 - Baptism of the Lord" with the justification that "at European level, Romania ranks last in terms of the number of days off, so that, for example, in 2022, of the 15 public holidays, only 9 are during the week, with two in addition to last year".
Earlier this year, we had reported on Romanian USR deputy, Marian Lazăr, introducing a bill to the Romanian Senate which would declare December 24 as a new annual public holiday in Romania (2022-02-23 and 2022-01-11).
Nonetheless, we do not expect either of the aforementioned bills, to pass and amend the previously-announced list of Romanian public holidays for 2022 (2021-10-10) and 2023 (2022-01-07).
