Togo's ministre de la fonction publique, du travail et du dialogue social, Gilbert Bawara, has announced that Monday, January 3, 2022, had been declared as a non-working public holiday throughout Togo to compensate this year's New Year public holiday falling on a Saturday.
The aforementioned announcement calls the declaration of a public holiday on Monday, January 3, 2022, exceptional ("Cette mesure exceptionnelle vise à permettre à la population, particulièrement à l’ensemble des travailleurs de bénéficier d’un temps de repos et de reprendre le service et les activités dans un nouvel élan d’engagement et de vitalité").
The declaration of a Monday public holiday, when an annual public holiday falls on a weekend, is not systematic in Togo, but has happened on many occasions in the past, particularly for the January 1st and May 1st public holidays (2021-04-29, 2020-01-01, 2016-12-30, 2014-12-29, 2014-05-01 and 2011-12-30).
