12 Nov 2009 (Majlisi namoyandagon of Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan-MNMORT) Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament (the Majlisi Namoyandagon) has approved amendments to the law "On Public Holidays of the Republic of Tajikistan", creating a new annual national holiday, National Flag Day, on November 24. • 05 Nov 2009 (Official Site of the Presidency of Tajikistan-Dushanbe) On Tuesday, Tajikistan's President, Emomali Rahmon, sent a draft law on making amendments to the country’s law "On Holidays" to the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament). • 19 Sep 2009 (Asia-Plus news agency-Dushanbe) Tajikistan President, Emomali Rahmon, has announced that the upcoming Id al-Fitr (End of Ramadan) public holiday would be observed on Monday, September 21, 2009. • 30 Dec 2005 (Majlisi Oli-Tajikistan's Parliament) Tajikistan's Parliament has passed Law of RT 28.12.2005g. Governing Law: The list and dates of official public holidays in Tajikistan are regulated by the 1995 "Law Of The Republic Of Tajikistan On Holidays" (as amended in 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005) and articles 69 and 83 of the 1997 Tajikistan Labor Code (as amended in 1998, 1999, 2002, and 2004). • Working Holidays: Both the Labor code and the Law on Public Holidays specify that there are 3 holidays that are regular working days; The Day of the Tajik Language (July 22), Mehrgon (Harvest holiday), and Sada (also occurring in the fall). • Eves of Public Holidays: The Labor Code of Tajikistan specifies that the workday immediately preceding a public holiday should be reduced by at least one hour. • Navruz (Persian New Year) was extended from 2 to 3 days in 2002, and then from 3 to 4 days in 2005. • National Reconciliation Day actually refers to the June 27th public holiday, although there are hundreds of online sources that quote the incorrect date of November 9th (the original source of all these errors seems to be the Wikipedia page for Tajik public holidays). • Tajikistan International Codes TJ and TJK (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .tj (ICANN national top-level internet domain). • Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of Tajikistan information and news: National Bank of the Republic of Tajikistan (Tajikistan central bank), ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (Tajikistan maps, demographics and economic statistics), the IFES (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and voter participation in Tajikistan), and Wikipedia (includes Tajikistan commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays).

Religious Holidays : Public holidays in Tajikistan that are based on certain religious calendars may be subject to local variations due to differing interpretations between different religious authorities, or to seemingly arbitrary changes in the date a holiday is celebrated because it conflicts with another holiday that is based on another calendar, or because the day of the holiday is deemed inauspicious (bad luck). Muslim Holidays : Muslim bank holidays, legal holidays and public holidays for Tajikistan were evaluated using the Umm al-Qura Calendar of Saudi Arabia which is used in Saudi Arabia and in most of the Persian Gulf States. Holidays may occur a day later in countries outside the Gulf region. The sunrises, sunsets, moon phases, moonrises and moonsets used in these calculations are based on the location of Mecca (latitude 21.42°N, longitude, 39.82°E, GMT+3 hours, no summer time rules).
