The Government of Bangladesh has declared the date of the upcoming general elections, Monday, October 1st, 2001, as a one-off public holiday.
The 2 main parties of Bangladesh each have an emotionally charged public holiday that they plan to maintain (August 15 for the Awami League; 01-Jul-1996) or cancel (November 7 for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party).
