Chile's Electoral Service has announced that Wednesday, April 24, 2002, had been declared a one-off public holiday in Chile, on account of that day's "XVII Censo Nacional de Población y VI de Vivienda" census.

The date of Chilean censuses was made into official public holidays, as per the recently promulgated law 19.790, "Declara Feriado Legal y Regula los Dias de Realizacion de Censos Oficiales" (01-Feb-2002).
