The former Swedish EU commissionaire Anita Gradin is expected to suggest that the June 6 national day be made into a full-fledged public holiday, starting in 2005.
This follows from Sweden's Parliament 2002 decision (07-Jun-2002) to make June 6th, Sweden's National Day into a full public holiday. To compensate, Whit Monday will be dropped from the list of public holidays in Sweden, also in 2005.
The 2-year delay in implementing the 2002 decision is due to a heated debate as to which public holiday should be removed from the list of non-working public holidays in Sweden.
