(Posted on Wednesday, September 10, 2008)

Cai Jiming, a Tsinghua University professor and the principal of the holiday reform planning group (our post of November 17, 2007) has floated the idea that the October 1st National Day 3-day public holiday should be reduced to 1 day only to make room for 2 new, more traditional public holidays.

However, a recent online poll on the sina.com website, shows that almost 80% of respondents reject the idea.
