Argentina Considering Additional July 10 Public Holiday

(Posted on Tuesday, July 7, 2009)

Source: La Capital (Buenos Aires)

Argentina's Minister of National Health, Juan Manzur, has announced that the government was considering a one-off bridge public holiday on Friday, July 10, 2009.

Combined with the annual, fixed-date, July 9, public holiday, this would provide for a 4-day public holiday.

Another option would be to move the July 9 public holiday, as was done last year for the October 12 public holiday (01-Oct-2008), though this would be much more difficult to do at the last minute, while there is already in law, due to expire on December 31, 2009, allowing the government to declare a sanitary alert public holiday (asueto nacional).

A similar public heath public holiday was declared recently in Mexico (30-Apr-2009).
