Hong Kong 2010 Public Holidays Announced

(Posted on Saturday, April 25, 2009)

Source: Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSAR)

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has released its official list of 2010 public holidays to be observed in Hong Kong.

The decision to declare this additional public holiday, named "The day following the Ching Ming Festival", was made due to the fact that, in 2010, both the Ching Ming and Easter Monday public holidays fall on the same date.

Note that the same coincidence of the Ching Ming and Easter Monday occurred in 1999, and the same decision was made at the time by the government of Hong Kong (13-May-1998).

The special treatment of Ching ming was codified a few years later in paragraph 4b) of the amendment to the Cap 57 s 39, Grant of holidays, published in Gazette Number 7 of 2001 (April 12, 2001).
