Earlier today, the Secretariat General of the Iraqi cabinet declared tomorrow, Tuesday, July 14, 2009, as an official public holiday, marking the anniversary of the 1958 Revolution.
Though the announcement only states that "tomorrow will be an official holiday for all state departments and institutions" this public holiday is generally observed across all sectors of society.
The July 14 public holiday survived last year's purging of Iraq's public holidays calendar, which saw the removal of 3 public holidays that were indirect reminders of Sadam Hussein (08-Feb-2008).
