Malaysia Considering July 7 Penang Public Holiday

(Posted on Monday, June 8, 2009)

The Chief Minister of Malaysia's State of Penang, Lim Guan Eng, has announced that the state government was considering a proposal to declare July 7, 2010, a public holiday to mark the recognition of Georgetown as a world heritage site by UNESCO.

It is not clear how the state government is going to keep all the public holidays promises it has made, as the State of Penang has also announced that it would celebrate the September 16 Malaysia Day public holiday, beginning in 2009 (01-Sep-2008).

UNESCO declared Malacca and George Town World Heritage Sites on July 7 last year.
