The Chief Minister of Malaysia's State of Malacca, Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam, has issued a statement that July 7, the day Malacca was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, would not also be made a state public holiday.
Reacting to yesterday's declaration of a new annual July 7 state public holiday in Malaysia's Penang State (07-Jul-2009), Malacca's Chief Minister said that the state holiday on April 15, when Malacca was declared a Historical City, was sufficient.
UNESCO declared Malacca and George Town World Heritage Sites on July 7 last year.
