New Zealand Clarifies Christmas And New Year Public Holidays

(Posted on Wednesday, December 9, 2009)

Source: NZ Department of Labour (DOL)

The New Zealand Department of Labour has sent us an email to clarify the implications of the upcoming December 26 and January 2 public holidays falling on a Saturday.

As per the DOL announcement, employees who normally do work on a Saturday will be off on Saturday, December 26, 2009, and Saturday, January 2, 2010. On the other hand, employees who normally do not work on a Saturdays, will benefit from a day in lieu public holidays on the 2 following Mondays (December 28, 2009, and January 4, 2010).

In essence, this means that on Monday, December 28, 2009, and Monday, January 4, 2010, stores will be open, but neither the private sector, nor the public sector will be working. One can also safely expect almost everything to be closed on Saturday, December 26, 2009, and Saturday, January 2, 2010.
