Oman Declares July 20 Public Holiday

(Posted on Sunday, July 19, 2009)

Oman's minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and chairman of the Civil Service Council, Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, has announced that tomnorrow, Monday, July 20, 2009, would be a public sector holiday, on the occasion of the blessed anniversary of Al Israa Wal Miraj.

The announcement covers all employees at the ministries, public authorities and other departments of the state administrative apparatus.

A separate and similar announcement, covering the private sector, was also made by Oman's minister of manpower, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri.

There was a possibility that the date that would be announced for the private sector be different from the date announced for the public sector, as the dissociation of the public holidays of the private and public sector has become a regular occurence in Oman (see, for example, 08-Mar-2009, 22-Dec-2008 and 05-Dec-2008).
